The Indian government is set to notify the long-awaited online gaming rules within the next 15 days, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw said on January 22 during the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Speaking to Moneycontrol, Vaishnaw explained that while the substantive provisions of a law come into effect immediately after Parliament passes it, the operational aspects are implemented through notified rules. “The rules are ready and should be published within an outer limit of 15 days,” he said.
The minister, who also holds the portfolios of Information & Broadcasting and Railways, emphasized that the framework has been developed after extensive consultations with a wide range of stakeholders. “We have had a tremendous amount of consultation with the industry, the financial sector, regulatory bodies, and law enforcement authorities,” he added.
