Om Birla Rejects Opposition Charges After No-Confidence Motion Defeated in Lok Sabha

Om Birla on Wednesday rejected the Opposition’s allegations after a no-confidence motion brought against the government was defeated in the Lok Sabha.

The motion was taken up amid loud protests and sloganeering from Opposition members. During the proceedings, Jagadambika Pal, who was in the Chair at the time, announced that the no-confidence motion had been defeated. The announcement triggered further protests from Opposition MPs, who accused the government of avoiding a full discussion on the issue.

Responding to the allegations, Birla defended the conduct of the House and said that parliamentary rules and procedures had been followed. He emphasized that the functioning of the Lok Sabha must remain orderly and that decisions are taken in accordance with established parliamentary norms.

Opposition parties, however, continued to express dissatisfaction, alleging that their concerns were not adequately addressed during the proceedings. The disruption reflected the growing tensions between the ruling coalition and Opposition parties over several policy and governance issues being debated in Parliament.

The development once again highlighted the sharp political divide in the House, with both sides trading accusations over parliamentary conduct and the handling of key issues raised by the Opposition.
