New Delhi, August 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched a nationwide campaign against drug abuse, asserting that a drug-free youth population is essential for achieving the vision of a Developed India (Viksit Bharat) by 2047.
Addressing the launch event in New Delhi, the Prime Minister said India’s greatest strength lies in its young population. However, he cautioned that this demographic advantage can only be fully realized if the country’s youth remain physically fit, mentally strong, and free from substance abuse.
“Drug addiction not only destroys the future of an individual but also weakens families and society. To build a developed India, our youth must stay away from drugs,” Modi said.
Calling for a whole-of-society approach, the Prime Minister urged parents, teachers, educational institutions, community leaders, and law enforcement agencies to work together to prevent drug abuse among young people. He stressed that awareness, timely intervention, rehabilitation, and stringent action against drug traffickers should go hand in hand.
The campaign seeks to raise awareness about the harmful effects of narcotics, strengthen rehabilitation and counselling services, encourage community participation, and intensify efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks.
The Prime Minister reiterated that a healthy and empowered young generation is the foundation of India’s aspirations to become a developed nation by 2047. He appealed to citizens across the country to actively participate in the fight against drugs and contribute to building a stronger, healthier, and more prosperous India.
