New Delhi: Leaders of the youth-led Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) met Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda on Monday after the Centre reached out for talks, even as thousands of supporters assembled in the national capital for a planned march to Parliament despite restrictions imposed by Delhi Police.
The months-old movement has emerged as a major youth-led protest, with demonstrators demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged examination paper leaks. The campaign has gained significant traction on social media and has also drawn support from several opposition parties.
Tensions escalated after activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was on a hunger strike in solidarity with the movement, was shifted to a hospital by police on Saturday. The move triggered fresh protests and prompted more supporters to join the demonstration.
Thousands of protesters gathered overnight at Jantar Mantar ahead of the march, which coincides with the opening day of Parliament’s Monsoon Session.
In a post on X, CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das said the government had initiated contact for talks. “The government reached out for talks this morning. Our demands are clear,” he said while heading to the meeting with Union Minister J.P. Nadda.
The outcome of the talks is expected to determine whether the protests continue or move towards a negotiated resolution.
