Vance Heads to Pakistan for Iran Talks as Ceasefire Wobbles

Washington/Islamabad, April 10: JD Vance has departed for Pakistan to lead high-stakes negotiations with Iran, as a fragile ceasefire in the ongoing conflict shows signs of strain.

The talks, expected to be held in Islamabad, are part of efforts by the United States to stabilise a tenuous truce reached earlier this week, amid growing disagreements over its terms and scope.

Vance will head the American delegation, joined by key aides, in what marks a rare moment of direct high-level engagement with Iran. The negotiations are being facilitated by Pakistan, which has stepped in as a mediator in the conflict.

However, the ceasefire remains shaky, with both sides divided on critical issues, including reopening the Strait of Hormuz and the geographical scope of the truce. Confusion over whether regions like Lebanon are covered has further complicated the situation.

Analysts say the talks face an uphill task, with deep mistrust, conflicting demands, and ongoing military tensions threatening to derail efforts at a lasting peace.
