PM Modi Extends India’s Support to Venezuela After Devastating Earthquakes

New Delhi/Caracas, June 25: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed deep sorrow over the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela and assured India’s full support to the affected nation.

In a message posted on X, Prime Minister Modi said, “Deeply saddened by the devastation caused by the severe earthquakes in Venezuela. On behalf of the people of India, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Venezuela, especially to the families who have lost their loved ones. We pray for the speedy recovery of those injured and stand in solidarity with all those affected during this difficult time. India stands ready to extend all possible assistance.”

The statement came after two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale struck western Venezuela within less than a minute, causing widespread destruction across several regions, including the capital Caracas. Buildings collapsed, hundreds were injured and rescue teams continued efforts to locate survivors trapped under debris.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquakes could result in significant casualties and extensive damage. Venezuelan authorities have declared a state of emergency and appealed for international assistance as rescue and relief operations continue.

India’s offer of assistance reflects the close and growing ties between the two countries. Earlier this month, Prime Minister Modi had held discussions with Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodríguez on expanding cooperation in energy, trade and other sectors.

International aid efforts are gathering pace as countries across the world express solidarity with the people of Venezuela in the wake of one of the country’s most destructive natural disasters in recent history.
