Government’s Customer-First Strategy Helped India Navigate Global Oil Crisis: Former HPCL Chief

New Delhi, June 29: Former Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), Mukesh Kumar Surana, has said that the Government’s “customer-first” approach and a well-coordinated multi-pronged strategy enabled India to successfully navigate one of the most challenging global oil crises in recent history.

Speaking on the country’s response to the unprecedented volatility in international energy markets, Surana said India ensured uninterrupted availability of petrol, diesel, and LPG despite severe supply chain disruptions and sharp fluctuations in global crude oil prices.

He credited the government’s proactive policy measures, coordinated efforts of public sector oil marketing companies, and robust supply chain management for maintaining fuel security and protecting consumers during the crisis.

Surana noted that India’s ability to diversify crude oil imports, strengthen strategic planning, and efficiently manage logistics helped cushion the impact of geopolitical uncertainties on domestic consumers.

He said the experience demonstrated the resilience of India’s energy sector and highlighted the importance of customer-centric policies in safeguarding the country’s energy needs during periods of global instability.

India’s oil marketing companies played a crucial role in maintaining fuel availability across the country, ensuring that essential services and economic activities continued without major disruption despite unprecedented challenges in the international energy market.
